Political waters
are rarely calm seas.
Currents shift.
Tides turn.
But those who navigate wisely
reach their destination.
I design flow maps and build bridges — for leaders who want to make an impact at the intersection of business, science, politics, and society. Because I have known these waters for more than 25 years.

The bait must
appeal to the fish.
That sounds simple. Yet it is the most demanding discipline of political strategy.
To be effective, you must first understand how others think. What language they speak. What goals they pursue. What frameworks move them and which ones limit them.
I help you figure that out. And then take action.
Good arguments alone are rarely enough.
Political processes follow their own rules. Coalitions have their logic, ministries their pace, and public debates their own dynamics. Those who can read and understand these currents act at the right time, with the right tone, and create connections where others see boundaries. That is exactly my work.
25 years of experience inside the German government apparatus – at federal, state, and EU levels, in calm times and in true crises. I pass this knowledge on: as a strategic companion—direct, personal, confidential, and exclusively for executives.
My Offer
Expertise for decisive moments.
Reading and navigating political landscapes
What really matters in ministries, coalitions, and political networks cannot be gleaned from reports. I bring the insider's perspective and know which voices count: which are loud, which are quiet, and which actually decide. I help you understand these landscapes correctly and act at the right time.
Developing effective strategies
Strategic effectiveness arises when values, timing, and communication align. I work with you to develop a political strategy that fits you and your organization – one that endures even when the wind changes.
Staying calm when the sea gets rough
Crises rarely announce themselves. What matters is a clear head and concentrated composure, especially in the first few hours. I accompany you in politically delicate situations: with experience from federal government crisis units and the sober perspective of a Northern German.
Performing on any stage
Whether it is a federal ministry, the EU Commission, or the international stage: a truly sovereign appearance is not just a matter of personality, but of targeted preparation. I prepare you: substantively, strategically, and situationally. So you can appear in any room exactly as you wish.
How I Work
A partnership.
I am neither a management consultancy nor a PR agency. I do not write long reports or create slide decks.
What I do: I listen – to you and to the political environment. I think along with you. I provide context. I am your strategic companion for the questions you cannot discuss with everyone. What you tell me stays with me.
What I tell you is always my honest assessment, even if it is uncomfortable. No diplomatic detours, but a well-founded statement that moves you forward.
Two Formats
Tailor-made collaboration.
Strategic Accompaniment
Continuous, on-call, as a reliable conversation partner in the background. Long-term if required.
Project Mandates
For clearly defined endeavors: positioning, political strategy, and preparation for specific decision-making situations.
About Me
Bettina Bundszus
Political scientist and historian, former senior federal official, strategic advisor.
For more than 25 years, I worked within the inner workings of the German government apparatus — first in the state of Lower Saxony, then at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and subsequently as Head of Department at the rank of Ministerial Director at the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. I advised senior political figures across party lines, closely and in confidence.
I know legislative processes from every angle — I have led crisis task forces, negotiated international agreements, and managed budget allocations running into the billions. My most significant achievement: the legal entitlement to full-day care for primary school children — one of the largest social policy projects of recent decades and a decisive contribution to addressing the skilled labor shortage.
My professional anchor is the younger generation: as a lecturer in political science at the University of Hanover, I teach the people who will be governing this country in twenty years. Since 2025, I have been coaching leaders who want to make an impact at the intersection of business, academia, politics, and society.
Grown up in Friesland, on the North Sea coast – this shapes my broad perspective and clear character to this day.
Pontes Politics is based in Bremen. Today I live in Vienna, with a direct view of Germany, Europe, and the international stage; enriched by a diplomatic environment that opens up new perspectives for me every day.

From the Bridge to the Stage

What drives me
Pontes Politics – the name is a deliberate choice. I am firmly convinced that bridges are needed between business, science, and politics. And it works better when we are all able to hear the quiet and the serious behind the noise.
The great questions of our time can only be solved together: How do we shape technological change fairly? How do we strengthen democratic institutions? How do state and society remain capable of acting as crises multiply?
These questions drive me — as someone who knows how difficult and, above all, how rewarding it is to truly make a difference in this field of tension. Those who listen, understand. Those who show conviction, win trust.
The bait must appeal to the fish. Everything else is just fisherman's tales.
